Command Aviation is a full service flight training school located at Bellingham International Airport in the beautiful Pacific Northwest. Learning to fly in this region of the world gives our students the advantage of experiencing diverse flying conditions.
We offer airplane flight training and helicopter flight training programs that can take you to your Private Pilot license all the way through to becoming a Certified Flight Instructor (CFI). All of our instructors are friendly, veteran pilots and each level of flight training is designed to provide you with personalized instruction that encompasses your goals and timelines.
Introductory
The decision to start flight training is a big commitment. To help you determine if flight training is for you, we suggest an introductory flight were you get your hands on the controls. This introductory flight consists of a half an hour of ground and a half an hour of flight (the flight portion can be longer for an extra charge). By time you’re back on the ground, you’ll know if you have what it takes to be a pilot.
Ground School
Ground School is the preliminary class work for the Flight Training that follows. Our class work runs about 15 hours in length and includes the basic principles of flight, including FAA test preparation for fixed wing aircraft. All prospective pilots must pass the course in order to advance to the next level of instruction. The course covers very basic information in the following:

- Enroute Flight
- Navigation
- Communications
Weekend classes begin continually on Saturdays at 9:00a.m.

Flight Training
Flight training extends everything you’ve learned in Ground School into the next level, giving you lots of experience in the air and behind the controls.
We offer instruction and training for the following certification:
- Private Pilot
- Instrument
- Commercial
- Certified Flight Instructor
- Certified Instrument Flight Instructor
- Recreational Certificate
- ATP Certificate
Helicopter Training
Command Aviation operates the only public helicopter service in Bellingham.
Typically, a Private Pilot program includes 50 hours of flight time (40 hours dual and 10 hours solo). Flight training begins with simple maneuvers, such as straight and level flight, and progresses to more complicated maneuvers as your proficiency grows. Student safety and progress are always our first priorities.
A comprehensive ground program (35 hours) will prepare you for the Private Pilot written and oral exams and serves as the major knowledge base for the Commercial and CFI certifications.
